Well apparently storms in Las Vegas severely screwed up Southwest’s game plan today.
I’m writing this from the airport circa 7:40 pm AZ time. My flight was supposed to leave at 7:20 pm. The 7:10 pm flight that boarded at my new gate is still sitting here at the gate.
They oversold my flight as well and offered people a $300 credit to fly out tomorrow instead. Doesn’t really work for me.
As I wrote the last paragraph, we were notified that yet ANOTHER plane is coming into our gate once this flight to Oakland is finally out of the gate. That next plane will be off to El Paso. And then (hopefully) our flight will arrive, board and get me to Austin. I don’t anticipate landing until probably 1 am or later at this point (originally 11:35 pm).
But at least I just met a few people also heading out for RTX. So it’s nice to know I’m not alone.
With all of the traveling I’ve done in the last year or so, I have been very fortunate. For the most part, I’ve had no problems. I think my flight back from Let’s Play Live was delayed about 15 minutes but that’s been the worst of it.
This situation obviously sucks. And I don’t envy the venom being hurled at the Southwest staff today. It’s never a good time when flights are cancelled because you just ruined a couple hundred people’s day. The expectation is of course that everything should just run smoothly. How were they supposed to know monsoons in Las Vegas would reroute a bunch of planes to Phoenix.
I’m trying to stay positive since, with any luck, I’ll still get to see my friends in a few hours. And hey, it gave me something to write about tonight. And the extra time to do it. Yay…
Oh hey. They just changed my gate. Again. At least they told me this time.
