I’m about a week or two behind the times on publishing this because it hit right in the throws of E3 predictions, but on June 6, the PlayStation Blog published the top-selling PSN Games for the month of May 2016. And as I love doing (given that I dedicated an entire week to E3 predictions), let’s see how I did compared to what actually happened. In last month’s round-up here’s what I wrote:
- As mentioned in the NPD predictions, I think Overwatch will perform very well for the month even taking the top spot overall. But I think Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End will take the top spot on the PSN (so Overwatch landing at #2 is my call).
- Based on the last day or so, I think a strong showing by Doom is a safe bet.
- And as mentioned yesterday, Battleborn and Homefront: The Revolution are a couple more Triple-A titles that I think will ultimately fair well.
- As for smaller/digital-only titles: Rocket League and Minecraft will continue to fare well. Shadow Complex Remastered might garner enough interest since it was never on PlayStation before but I also feel like it didn’t get a huge push so it’ll probably hit somewhere on the bottom half of the PS4 top 20. Shadow of the Beast and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutants in Manhattan might also fall into that 11-20 category.
PS4:

- So right out the gate, I correctly called out Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End leading the pack, even over Overwatch. (2 out of 2)
- Doom landed right up there at #3. (3 out of 3)
- Rocket League and Minecraft continued their ongoing dominance at #4 and #6, respectively. (5 out of 5)
- Battleborn at least cracked the top 10 at #8 while Homefront: The Revolution was nowhere to be found in the top 20. (6 out of 7)
- And my predictions that Shadow Complex Remastered, Shadow of the Beast, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles all fell flat.(6 out of 10)
- Most of the remaining top ten (and twenty) were filled out with other older titles, many of them likely on sale from flash sales or something.
Vita and Classics:

- Severed got bumped to number 2 with Killzone: Mercenary capitalizing on flash sales.
- Hitman GO: Definitive Edition, which launched back in February, made it’s debut on the list at #7 on the Vita.
- Everything else appears to be a mix of the usual/Flash Sale suspects.
- Rockstar continues to dominate the Classics chart with Bully, GTA: San Andreas, Manhunt, and GTA: The Trilogy.
- Newcomers Wild Arms 3 and The King of Fighters 2000 debut at #3 and #5, respectively.
So let’s make some predictions for June’s PSN best-sellers.
- Mirror’s Edge Catalyst, despite not reviewing well, will probably still make the top ten.
- And despite launching June 28th, LEGO Star Wars: The Force Awakens will chart pretty well.
- Uncharted, Overwatch, Rocket League, and Minecraft are all likely to stay in the field.
- I’ll go out on a limb and say that Doom holds on for another month too, in the top ten.
- Games with “Battle” in the title will fall off (Battlefield 4, Battlefield Hardline, Battleborn). As will Killzone and Witcher.
- With a lot of titles on-sale right now for an E3 Flash Sale, I think a few old games will re-emerge: Assassin’s Creed Syndicate ($23.99 for PS+), Dragon Age Inquisition ($5.99 for PS+), Star Wars Battlefront ($23.99 for PS+), and Dark Souls 2: Scholar of the First Sin ($15.99 for PS+)
As always, we’ll see how I do next month.
